This short exercise is about something called ‘Zeta Potential’. It is important that you understand the basics of zeta potential so that you can fully appreciate what people are talking about when the talk about water and micro-clustering.

According to colloidal chemistry, zeta potential is where particulate matter that is suspended in a colloidal solution carries a series of charges that cause that matter to clump together into what are called ‘flocs’. Floccation is used in drinking water purification to remove turbidity. Negative charged particles repel each other so that may be more easily filtered out of the water.

What happens is that low zeta potentials, which are synonymous with low ORP, reduce the electrostatic interactions between particles allowing the particles to approach closely and hence produce more compact flocs. While this is typically achieved with ORP values as low as -22, some ionizer manufacturers have found that ORP values that are even lower can be achieved. Companies that make these machines often report ORP values in the range of -400 to -700.

Because a negative charge is not possible to hold for long, this water is considered to by highly unstable for storage and transport. That is why you see these machines for sale in hospitals, restaurants and even homes. Obviously, if the water was stable, then we would see water companies carrying this kind of water as a salable product. Simply, you cannot get this high a quality of water by delivery. So for those that can afford it, high quality, -700 ORP water is basically ‘on-tap’.

Consumers should note, however, that not all machines are created equal. As with most things, you get what you pay for. Some machines are very reasonably priced but do not last. They are difficult, if not impossible to clean, and are pretty much a write-off after two years. People should do their diligence and really check the subject out before they purchase.

For consumers who simply cannot afford this quality of water, there is a very efficient and reasonable solution. There is a company that makes Hunzana pH Drops that essentially provide a very stable, low ORP (-20), high alkaline water (pH 9.5) for literally pennies a gallon. It is a concentrate that people just use to put drops in their bottled or tap water.

Clearly, there is a solution out there for almost everyone. You might have to do a little digging to find it, but never the less it is there for the taking.
